Biography

Christian McLeod creates paintings that engage viewers and evoke memories of imagined sanctuaries. His vibrant abstracts capture the beauty in contemporary landscapes, shifting between perception and the particles that make up the whole.

McLeod uses both oil-based pigments and acrylic on canvas, pushing and pulling them across the canvas to seize moments of transformation. His process distills change, turning each painting into a snapshot of movement.

After graduating from the Toronto School of Art in 1992, McLeod moved to Spain, where he exhibited in Ibiza, Spain. He has also worked in Mexico and Germany.

His Ossington Ave storefront studio and home was in operation for over a decade in what was Toronto’s most vibrant art scene.

Currently his studio is in the up and coming Toronto St. Clair west arts community.

His paintings are in corporate, public and private collections, including MHPM in Halifax and Calgary, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa. Private collectors across Canada, the U.S., Spain, the Netherlands, Germany and New Zealand. He has contributed to events like Casey House’s Art with Heart fundraiser many times. His painting has appeared on book covers, such as Consciousness and Fundamental Reality by Philip Goff, published by Oxford University Press.

For two years, McLeod’s work has been part of the “Ideas and Visions for a New Concept of Architecture” project at the University of Valencia, Spain. His paintings have appeared in Chatelaine, Ottawa Magazine, and 1969 Magazine and House and Home.
